Fun fact about you:

My family is originally from the Abaco Islands in the Bahamas. We lived there for about 6 years and now we visit as often as we can. I think getting to call the Bahamas home is a pretty cool part of who I am!

What is the most unusual or interesting thing you have ever done?

I traveled to Sri Lanka for a mission trip a few years ago and ate jackfruit for the first time. Jackfruit is a fruit with the texture of a mango or banana but it tastes like meat. Super strange but surprisingly good!

Tell us about being an Orthodontic Assistant at BRO:

As an orthodontic assistant I walk patients through appointments and perform tasks such as adjusting braces, bonding brackets, delivering appliances, bonding Invisalign attachments, taking records, etc. Assistants are responsible for completing all tasks as instructed by the Doctor and gathering all the necessary information to help each patient feel confident in every stage of their orthodontic treatment.

What are 3 words you would use to describe BRO?

I would describe BRO as caring, generous and forward-moving. BRO does a lot, not only for it’s patients, but also for its community. We also offer things like our Blue Star Program that helps those who need orthodontic treatment but cannot afford it achieve the smile they deserve. Along with that, BRO is always growing in its technology and capacity to better serve patients and families in our community to reach their smile goals!

What is your favorite aspect about BRO?

My favorite part of BRO is the community we create. Not only with our staff but with our patients as well!

Where would we typically find you outside of BRO?

I love being active and getting outdoors. So, if I’m not grabbing a coffee with a friend, you can find me hiking, mountain biking, taking a parkway drive, at the lake wakeboarding etc. Although, if it’s cold and rainy you may find me on the couch watching a movie or playing guitar.

What are 3 words you would use to describe BRO?

“I would describe BRO as loyal, charitable, and positive. Dr. Roberts has set a foundation at BRO where we consistently give back to our patients and community. It is amazing to be a part of each and every one of these contributions. For example, we host the only Cleft Lip and Palate Clinic in WNC. We have local providers such as dentists, oral surgeons, speech pathology, physiology, audiology, ENT, and more spend an afternoon in our office examining patients and making referrals for each patient based on their needs. This clinic is completely complimentary for CLP patients. This is something that WNC has needed for years as the closest clinics are in Charlotte, NC, or Columbia, SC.”

What is your favorite aspect about BRO?

“My favorite thing about BRO is the people I work with and the patients! At BRO we treat our employees and patients as family. We start seeing patients at the age of 7 and continue treating them throughout their orthodontic care up until the end of treatment with our Oral Surgeons for wisdom teeth extractions. So we are seeing them on a consistent basis for years! I love being able to see their journey.”

Where would we typically find you outside of BRO?

“In the summer you can find me wake surfing at Lake Hartwell. The lake is my favorite place in the whole world! In the winter you can find me snowboarding at either Catalooche, Sugar, or Beech Mountain.”

I am striving to create a healthy relationship with my body. I try to work out every day, hike, do yoga, stay in touch with nature. It’s a hard journey, but I am falling in love with it.

What is the most unusual or interesting thing you’ve ever done?

I drove to St. Louis and then Chicago just because I needed a mental break. I usually take random adventures to chase the sun or find pretty places when I need some clarity in my life. What is your favorite aspect about BRO?

The ability to work with patients in all aspects and realms of life and help them get the smile of their dreams

Fun Fact about you:

I play on two soccer teams, one of which I’m the captain of. I’ve been doing this for about 8 years and have won 4 trophies. Soccer is very important to me. I love both playing and watching!

What is the most unusual or interesting thing you’ve ever done?

Not sure if this counts, but when I was at the Grand Canyon I got rushed by an adult elk. I saw what I thought was a mule deer and started to approach it in the wooded/brush area when out of nowhere, a huge elk started running at me (turns out the mule deer was a young elk that I am assuming was the child of the angry one). It stopped about 10 yards from me and started bellowing at me. I walked backwards, hands up, and it backed down. Gave me quite the scare though!

Tell us about your role at BRO:

I am the Human Resources Manager at BRO. I do a lot of behind the scenes work that includes, but is not limited to: payroll, schedule implementation, accounts payable, bank deposits, hiring, helping employees with any concerns, misc. office maintenance, etc. Human Resources wears many hats at small businesses!

What are 3 words you would use to describe BRO?

I would describe BRO as family, purpose, and an outlet to be authentic. I spend so much time with my coworkers, that I grow to care about them like I would my family. Given BRO’s charitable efforts, I feel as though I am working for a company with a purpose that goes beyond making profits. I love how much we give back. I chose outlet because I feel like I can really be myself and joke around with my coworkers. I love not having to put on a mask and pretend to be someone I’m not.

What is your favorite aspect about BRO?

I would say either my coworkers or our charitable efforts. It’s hard to decide between those. I thoroughly enjoy everyone I work with and how we all come together to create a fun work environment.

Where would we typically find you outside of BRO?

Outside of BRO, I am either at the gym, at home, or at the soccer field. I love to stay active and try to get in some form of activity every day.

In conclusion, we hope you loved learning more about Cody as much as we did! Keep an eye out for him around the office, and be on the lookout for our next staff spotlight next week!
