Joe H. Farrar, D.M.D.
Dr. Farrar has loved and continues to enjoy serving the Hendersonville and surrounding communities since 1981 when he opened his first orthodontic practice.
Dr. Farrar grew up in a small town in Alabama, and after high school he went on to play college football for Troy University. While studying biology and chemistry at Troy, he had the opportunity to interview for dental school at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in Birmingham, AL. Upon acceptance, he began his journey toward a career in Orthodontics.
After completing dental school, Dr. Farrar headed to Denver, Colorado for an additional year of training where he completed a General Practice Residency at Denver General Hospital. It was there, after rotating through all the dental specialties, that Dr. Farrar learned of his love for orthodontics. He continued his training by completing a two-year Orthodontic Residency at Emory University in Atlanta. Once his residency was complete, Dr. Farrar started looking for a “nice town” in North Carolina to open a practice, and he discovered Hendersonville. After several years of practicing in Hendersonville, Dr. Farrar opened a second office in Brevard, and remains the only orthodontic practice in the community.
During his years of practice Dr. Farrar has been an active part of his community. He has spent his career in support of many fine organizations in Henderson County. He has been an active board member of The Girls and Boys Club. He established a scholarship fund for the Community Foundation. He has supported the Children and Family Resource Center, Flat Rock Playhouse, Hospice, the Hendersonville Symphony and numerous other worthy organizations.
Dr. Farrar has made it a priority in his career to provide dental and orthodontic care to those in need, including international service trips to Israel, Tanzania and Honduras. Locally, he reaches more than 1,500 students each year in Henderson and Transylvania County Schools by providing programs in dental care – as well as providing school children with the necessary tools (such as toothbrushes and toothpaste) to maintain good dental hygiene.
Dr. Farrar and his wife Gayle have a daughter, Morgan, and a son, Grayson. They are both graduates of Wake Forest University.
During Dr. Farrar’s leisure time he enjoys golf, college football and sailing.
