Our end-of-year community partner is Asheville GreenWorks

AND WE’LL SPONSOR THE GROWTH OF A TREE ON YOUR BEHALF!

These trees will then be available for adoption from Asheville GreenWorks through their urban forestry program.

Asheville GreenWorks is leading efforts to plant trees in urban areas to protect our homes and neighborhoods from extreme heat, flooding, soil erosion and more. Trees in urban and residential areas are at risk because of development and changing climate. The year-round efforts of Asheville GreenWorks are visible all around Asheville.

Here’s how to get BRO to make a donation to Asheville GreenWorks to cover the cost of growing trees on your behalf:

  1. Fill out the form on this page.
  2. For each form submission (one per email) BRO will pay to offset the cost that it takes to grow a tree prior to adoption.

The sponsored trees will be available for community members to adopt as part of Asheville GreenWorks urban forestry program and will be available for adoption registration starting October 1st.

If you’d also like to adopt a tree, here’s what you need to know:

Asheville GreenWorks requests a minimum donation of $10 for tree adoption. This fee is separate from BRO’s sponsorship of the trees, which is an effort to help offset the cost of approximately $300 per tree that it takes to raise these trees until the adoption event. If you’d like to adopt a tree, here’s how it works:

  1. You must pre-register with a Buncombe County address AND a pickup time slot. Registration opens online at AshevilleGreenWorks.com October 1st. The tree adoption fee is a minimum of $10. This fee is separate from the sponsorship we’ll make on your behalf to offset the cost of raising the trees.
  2. After you’ve successfully registered, you’ll receive information via email about what to expect on tree pick-up day, as well as planting and care information.
  3. On Sunday, November 3rd, you’ll pick-up your tree at the Asheville GreenWorks Sandhill Rd nursery during your time slot.
  4. Plant your tree within 24 hours.

Sponsoring a tree is easy. Just fill out the form on this page and Blue Ridge Orthodontics will cover the cost to sponsor the tree, one tree per email address.

Each tree we give away costs around $300 to grow to the point that it will be adopted. Our sponsorship of these trees helps Asheville GreenWorks and their effort to support urban forestry in Asheville and Buncombe County.

You must pre-register using a Buncombe County address and a pickup time slot for November 3rd. One tree per Buncombe County residence, only.

Asheville GreenWorks is unable to host all attendees in their nursery at once. Your assigned time means all participants can park and be admitted to the nursery, as well as avoid interfering with regular traffic in the area.

If you are going to be busy or unavailable on the day of pick-up, you can have a friend or neighbor stop by for you. Trees cannot be picked up any later than 2 p.m.

Trees are between 3 and 7 feet tall and in 3 to 7 gallon pots. Trees fit in most vehicles. Consider having a tarp or towel laid down for soil spillage and wet spots.

Within 24 hours. Please plant your tree as soon as possible and begin watering it weekly through the rest of fall, depending on rainfall. These trees are used to being watered and cared for daily. They cannot remind in these containers without water for more than 2 days. For more information about plating your tree, check out the care instructions.

Please return any unbroken pots to the designated area at the GreenWorks’ Sandhill Nursery. They will be reused and help offset costs of future tree adoptions.

If pots are broken, take them to a Lowe’s Garden Center for free recycling. Please do not put them in your home recycling.

No. This giveaway is funded and intended for residential properties. These trees do not meet the size requirements for many public areas. GreenWorks also uses your registration information to see where the trees are being planted within Buncombe County. Please register only with your information for personal residential planting.
