With the hot weather, many of our minds are regularly thinking about ways to cool down. Air conditioning, swimming and, of course, cool treats like ice cream and smoothies. Cold treats are great for helping you feel cool, but did you know they also are great for helping to relieve the discomfort sometimes experienced after a braces adjustment or Invisalign tray change?
Ice cream can help relieve mouth pain or discomfort after an appointment because it’s cold temperature can reduce inflammation and swelling. The soft texture is also easy on your teeth and on your braces. Frozen yogurt, popsicles, slushies, and smoothies are all great good options for after an orthodontic appointment. Just keep in mind that some fruit smoothies make contain seeds that can get stuck between your braces and your teeth and may require an extra thorough cleaning after your beverage is gone.
Here are some options for cold, sweet treats after your braces or Invisalign appointment at Blue Ridge Orthodontics in Asheville, Hendersonville, and Brevard.
Asheville
Our Asheville office is located at 1915 Hendersonville Road in South Asheville. We have four recommendations for cold, sweet treats, all under 10 minutes from our office.
Whit’s Frozen Custard:
Serving house-made frozen custard, Whit’s in Gerber Village is only a stone’s throw away from our Asheville office. A quick 3-minute drive will bring you face-to-face with weekly and daily signature flavors in cones, cups, and pints.
Whit’s also carries ice cream sandwiches, which we hazard braces users against. Frozen cookies is a recipe for popped brackets!
Green Sage:
Another quick drive from our Asheville office, you can order your smoothie in less than five minutes post-appointment. Green Sage offers a variety of healthy breakfast and lunch options daily from 8-4. In the cold beverage and treats department, they offer organic, cold-press juice, milkshakes, and smoothies. Juices and smoothies are a great, healthy alternative if you’re looking for something cold and tasty without the added sugar. If you’re a braces patient, smoothies containing strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, chia seeds and other seedy ingredients, may require extra care after eating. These small particles can get stuck between your braces and between your teeth and may require post-meal flossing to remove.
